Reykjaböð Is Now Open – A New Geothermal Experience in South Iceland
Iceland has a new place where some of the country’s most distinctive elements come together – geothermal energy, crisp Icelandic air and the experience of bathing in warm water surrounded by nature.
Reykjaböð Hot Springs, a new geothermal complex in Hveragerði, has opened its doors to visitors at the entrance to Reykjadalur Valley, around 35 minutes’ drive from Reykjavík.
The location is no coincidence. Hveragerði is one of Iceland’s best-known geothermal areas, a town where heat from the earth has been used for decades to warm homes and greenhouses. Now, this remarkable setting is also home to a new destination dedicated to Iceland’s bathing and wellness culture.
A Geothermal Lagoon of Almost 900 Square Metres
At the heart of Reykjaböð is a geothermal lagoon covering almost 900 m², filled with naturally warm water.
But the experience is designed to offer much more than simply relaxing in the lagoon.
The outdoor area includes a sauna, cold pools at different temperatures and a Kneipp pool, allowing visitors to alternate between heat and cold in the Nordic bathing tradition.
There is also a bar accessible directly from the water, while guests can complete their visit with food and drinks at the on-site restaurant.
From Geothermal Water to Real Snow
For visitors looking for more than the classic lagoon experience, Reykjaböð also features a dedicated Bathhouse.
It contains ten different spaces where heat, cold, water, steam and relaxation are combined into a complete wellness experience.
One of its most unusual features is the Snow Room – a room with real snow, designed as a striking contrast to Iceland’s warm geothermal waters.
The Bathhouse also includes a steam bath, herbal pool, sauna, cold pool, different showers, a floating area and spaces dedicated to relaxation.
The idea is simple: instead of spending the entire visit in warm water, guests can move between different temperatures and experiences.
How Much Does Reykjaböð Cost?
The basic Classic admission currently starts from ISK 7,900 and includes access to the geothermal lagoon and outdoor wellness facilities.
For the complete experience, the Signature admission also includes access to the Bathhouse and currently starts from ISK 15,900.

Why Is the Location So Interesting for Travellers?
Perhaps one of Reykjaböð’s greatest advantages is not only what you find inside the complex.
It is where it is located.
Hveragerði is approximately 45 kilometres from Reykjavík and lies along a natural route towards some of South Iceland’s most famous landscapes and attractions.
