Iceland is a land of extraordinary natural phenomena, rich history and unique traditions. Here are just a few fascinating facts that make this island nation one of the most remarkable destinations in the world.

THE CLEANEST WATER IN THE WORLD

Almost everywhere in Iceland, you can drink water straight from the tap. Thanks to natural filtration through volcanic rock, it is considered some of the cleanest and highest-quality drinking water in the world.

BETWEEN TWO CONTINENTS

Iceland is the only place in the world where you can walk or dive between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Their separation can be seen with the naked eye.

THE LAND OF FIRE AND ICE

Active volcanoes, enormous glaciers, geysers, black beaches, waterfalls and lava fields can all be found on one island. This is why Iceland proudly bears the name Land of Fire and Ice.

THE ICELANDIC HORSE

The Icelandic horse is one of the purest breeds in the world. Once it leaves Iceland, it is not allowed to return, helping preserve the breed’s genetics and prevent the introduction of disease.

HOLLYWOOD IN ICELAND

Iceland’s spectacular landscapes have served as the backdrop for numerous films and TV series, including Game of Thrones, Interstellar, Batman Begins, Oblivion, Star Wars and many others.

THE AIR OF ICELAND

Thanks to its small population, renewable energy sources and almost complete absence of heavy industry, Iceland has some of the cleanest air on the planet.
