Golden Circle Fee from 2027? Iceland Proposes a Single Pass

Iceland is considering a new visitor fee for some of the best-known natural attractions on the Golden Circle route.

Under the Icelandic government’s proposal, visitors aged 18 and over who are not tax residents of Iceland would pay a single fee for access to Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss.

The proposed price is ISK 4,500 during the main season, from 1 June to 30 October, and ISK 3,000 from 1 November to 31 May.

Once paid, the pass would be valid for one year at all three locations, while tour operators and tour sellers would be able to purchase digital passes for their guests in advance.

If the proposal is adopted, the new system is planned to take effect on 1 May 2027.

Revenue would be used for the maintenance and development of tourism infrastructure, safety and nature conservation in Iceland. The proposal also provides for the removal of separate parking charges at state-owned sites where the new fee would apply.

For travellers planning the Golden Circle, it is important to note that no final decision has been made yet. NERA Iceland will follow the proposal and update this information if the new fee is adopted.
