Ljósanótt 2026: Keflavík Gets Ready for a Weekend of Light and Music

From 3 to 6 September, Reykjanesbær will once again host Ljósanótt, one of Iceland’s largest community and family festivals.

The name Ljósanótt translates as “Night of Lights”, although the celebration lasts throughout the weekend. The streets of Keflavík will come alive with concerts, exhibitions, family activities, cultural events and gatherings organised by the local community. This year’s festival motto is “Together with light in our hearts.”

The programme begins on Thursday, with the biggest celebrations expected on Saturday, 5 September. Several Icelandic performers will take the main stage near Ægisgata from 7:30 PM, followed by the traditional fireworks display at 10 PM.

Throughout the festival, visitors can explore exhibitions at Duus Museum, enjoy activities for children, listen to local choirs and join a guided walk through historic Keflavík. Special events will also take place at Viking World in nearby Njarðvík.

Ljósanótt is a wonderful example of how Icelandic communities mark the end of summer—with music, art, light and a strong sense of togetherness.
